FAQ

1. Matches and reporting

1.1 I just lost a match. How do I report the match?
The ladder uses a double-verification on-site reporting system. This means both players must verify a match, and it is all done on the web site (no email). You go to the report page, and enter the match data as well as your password. Once you've done this, the match will appear on the Unverified Matches page, and from here the winner can verify it.

1.2 I just won a match. How do I report the match?
You can't. Only the loser of a match can report it.

1.3 I just won a match. It's been reported, how do I verify it?
On the Verify page, find the match on the list and then click "verify". Give your name and password. You can also comment on the match.

Please note that the matches on the verify page are in the order they were reported from top to bottom. If you have several outstanding matches, verify the ones at the top first, as they are the oldest. (The script doesn't enforce this, but it is a good idea).

1.4 I just reported a match and realized I typed in the score wrong. Can I fix it?
Yes, either the loser or winner of a match may kill the match. Simply go to the Unverified Matches page, find your match, and click kill.

1.5 The match was reported wrong. How do I make someone re-report?
As the winner of the match, you can kill the match on the verify page. It is up to you to force the loser to re-submit the match.

1.6 What's a valid match? Is it IDL style or Cases style?
The ladder accepts any winner score between 0 and 999, and any loser score between -99 and 999.

Other comments on valid matches:

Remember that your user name (and password) is case-sensetive, so be sure to type "TobyCat" and not "Tobycat". Check the ladder page if you're not sure about caps.

HTML doesn't work in match comments. The < and > are simply stripped out. However, if you absolutely must have one, < will still be HTML-translated.

The level can be no longer than 50 characters.

1.7 What is a "fusion match"?
A fusion match is a match in a fusion-intensive level, being played with the current holder of the fusion trophy. If neither player holds the trophy, you don't have to check this box when reporting, even if you played in Ugh. But if you *did* play for the trophy, it will not be awarded unless this box is checked.

1.8 What is a "Fly blind match"?
A fly blind match is a match in which both players agree to play a level neither has seen before, and in which one of the players holds the fly-blind trophy. If neither player holds the trophy, there is no point in checking this box. But if you *did* play for the trophy, it will not be awarded unless this box is checked. Please note that this means *both* players flew the level blind--if only you did, (or only your opponent did), that is *not* a fly-blind match.

2. How does the ladder work?

2.1 Are ranks Cases-style or IDL-style?
IDL style. If you beat someone, you get their rank.

2.2 I just lost a match, but went up in rank. What happened?
The ladder works in a succession of tiers. Everyone who has played a match is automatically ranked above anyone who has never played, and everyone who has won a match is automatically ranked above anyone who has never won. So if you have never played before, playing a match will probably push you up a few ranks--even if you lose. Likewise, beating a player ranked lower than you, if you have never won before, will likely move you up a few ranks.

2.3 How do I drop ranks?
Go to the drop page, and enter your name and password. This will automatically drop you as far as you can be dropped.

2.4 I just tried to drop ranks, but it won't drop me past the middle of the ladder. What's up with this?
Due to the way the ladder works, a player who has won a match can never be ranked below a player who hasn't. You are on the bottom of the list of players with the same activity level as you, and you can't be dropped any farther.

3. Stats

3.1 What do the stats on my profile mean?
Wins - Losses Your record to date.
Efficiency The percentage of your matches that you win.
Experience Wins * Efficiency. The growth of this number essentially mirrors what your D2 rank would do.
Streak Your current streak.
Lifetime Streak Your lifetime best.
Win Factor How much you win games by, on average. For instance, if you win by 20 - 10, you're winning by a factor of 2. If this number is high, in general, you skunk opponents whenever you win. If it is low (near 1), on average you barely manage to win.

What happens when you beat someone 20 - 0? This counts as winning by a ratio of 20.
Lose Factor Same as win factor. If you are losing 10 - 20, you are losing by a factor of 2.

4. Medals

4.1 What are the medals?
Ladder Champion Trophy
This first trophy on the ladder is for all around excellence, successfully holding off opponents under any circumstances. It is held by the current champion of the ladder. Only one such trophy exists at a time--when the champion is beaten, the trophy is taken away and given to the new champion. If the champion drops ranks or leaves the ladder, this trophy will be passed on to the next highest ranked player.
Fusion Champion Trophy
This second trophy of the ladder is to recognize the masters of that strange and unmasterable fusion cannon. It is held by the current fusion champion of the ladder, and can only be taken through combat in a fusion-intensive level (both players must agree that the match is to be a fusion match, and choose the level accordingly). If the current fusion champion is beaten, the trophy is taken away and given to the new champion. If the current champion drops ranks or leaves the ladder, the trophy is inherited by the highest ranked player to have held it in the past, or if there is none, by the current ladder champion.
Fly Blind Trophy
The third and final trophy of the UF ladder rewards daring exploration and quick learning of new levels. The Fly Blind trophy is given to the current champion in playing blind levels. In such a match, both players must play a level that neither one has seen before. There is only one such trophy, and it will be given to the one who is dominant on unfamiliar turf. If the current champion drops ranks or leaves the ladder, the trophy is inherited by the highest ranked player who has held it in the past, or if none can be found, the current ladder champion.
Past Ladder Champion
This medal is given to those who have held the ladder champion trophy in the past. It is given at the time the trophy is lost. It may be acheived as many times as one can take the title. One signifier is added for each time the trophy is lost.
Past Fusion Champion
This is the medal recieved by past owners of the fusion trophy. It is given at the time the trophy is lost. This medal may be achieved as many times as the current fusion champion can be beaten. One signifier is added for each time the fusion trophy is held.
Past Fly Blind Champion
This is the medal given to those who have been blind match champions in the past. It is awarded at the time the trophy is lost. It may be acheived as many times as one can take the trophy.
Streak
This medal is given to those who sustain a winning streak of sufficient length. It has only 5 levels: it is awarded for streaks of 5, 8, 12, 18, and 25.
Busdriver
This medal is given for beating an opponent in their home. It may be achieved a theoretically unlimited number of times. One signifier is added for each match won in an opponent's home.
Home Defense
This medal is the counterpart to the busdriver. It is given for defending your home against intruders. It may be achieved an unlimited number of times. However, since you are expected to win in your home, it is only awarded once for every 5 successful defenses of your home.
Longevity
This medal recognizes the battle-hardened warriors on the ladder, and is given for sheer number of games played. It has five levels--for total records of 20, 50, 100, 200, and 500 matches. (If anyone actually plays 500, you're probably going to break the ladder. ;)
100 Kill Medal
This medal is given for scoring 100 kills or more in a single match. Whether you win or lose the match, the endurance required to kill an opponent 100 times is recognized. This medal may be acheived as many times as you like. One signifier is added for every 100 kill game.

4.1a What are the star things under the medals?
Those are the signifiers of how many times the medal has been recieved. One silver star is added for each time the medal is recieved, and one gold one stands in place of five silver ones.
Medal acheived once
Medal acheived five times

4.2 I just beat someone in a fusion level. Why didn't I get the trophy?
First, you must beat the current holder of the trophy, not just anyone. Playing just anyone in a fusion level does not make you the champion. Second, the match must be reported as a fusion match. If, on the verify screen, you do *not* see the words "FUSION MATCH" under the match description, it was not reported as a fusion match, and the trophy will not be awarded. Please watch for this--if you expect to get the fusion trophy and verify the match as a non-fusion match, the trophy will not be awarded.

4.3 I just beat someone in a fly-blind match. Why didn't I get the trophy?
The same comments as hold for the fusion trophy hold for the fly-blind trophy. You must beat the current holder of the trophy to take it, not just anyone, and the match must be reported as a blind match (this will show up on the verify screen).

4.4 I just played a game to 100 kills. Why didn't I get a 100 kill medal?
You will only recieve a 100 kill medal if you *personally* got 100 kills in the match. If the final score is 100 - 99, the loser will not recieve a 100 kill medal. But if the final score is 150 - 120, both players will recieve one.

4.5 I just dropped ranks--where did my trophies go?
When you drop ranks or leave the ladder, your trophies are inherited by the highest ranked person elligible to hold them. If you return to being active, you can theoretically win them back in one game each.
